1Policy statement
1.1Eurabelt Fuels Ltd believes that every child and every adult at risk has the right to be safe from abuse, neglect, exploitation and harm. Many cause areas of the framework, especially in the pillar The Next Generation, involve work with young people. Eurabelt will support only organisations that put their safety first.
2Scope and definitions
2.1This policy applies to the directors, employees and representatives of Eurabelt, to anyone who visits a supported activity on its behalf, and to every partner organisation whose work under the framework involves children or adults at risk.
2.2A child is anyone under the age of 18. An adult at risk is anyone aged 18 or over who, because of care and support needs, is unable to protect themselves from abuse, neglect or exploitation.
3Zero tolerance
3.1Eurabelt has zero tolerance of abuse, neglect, exploitation, sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment and bullying, by anyone connected with the programme. Concerns are always taken seriously, acted on promptly, and reported to the competent authorities where required.
4Requirements for partner organisations
4.1A partner organisation whose work involves children or adults at risk must:
- hold a written safeguarding policy and procedures, approved by its governing body and appropriate to the law of each country in which it operates;
- appoint a designated safeguarding lead, and make that person known to staff, volunteers, participants and families;
- apply safer recruitment practices, including the criminal record and barring checks available in each jurisdiction, such as Disclosure and Barring Service checks in the United Kingdom, references and identity verification, for every person in a position of trust;
- train its staff and volunteers in safeguarding, at a level suited to their role, and refresh that training regularly;
- keep a code of conduct for adults working with children and adults at risk, including rules on supervision, communication, photography and online contact;
- obtain appropriate consent before publishing images or stories of participants, and never publish information that could identify a child at risk;
- report to Eurabelt, within 24 hours of becoming aware of it, any serious safeguarding incident or allegation connected with activities supported under the framework, while protecting the confidentiality of those involved.
4.2Eurabelt reviews these arrangements during due diligence and may ask to see evidence of them at any time.
5Eurabelt personnel
5.1Directors, employees and representatives of Eurabelt who visit supported activities must follow the partner’s safeguarding procedures, must not be left alone with children or adults at risk, and must not take or publish images of participants without the partner’s agreement and appropriate consent.
6Reporting a concern
6.1If anyone is in immediate danger, contact the local emergency services first.
6.2Any other concern about the safety of a child or adult at risk in connection with the programme should be reported to the safeguarding lead of the partner organisation and to compliance@eurabeltfuels.eu. Reports may also be made as set out in the Complaints and Speak-Up Policy (EBF-CSR-POL-11). No one who reports a concern in good faith will suffer any detriment.
7Response
7.1On receiving a concern, Eurabelt will ensure that the partner has taken the steps needed to protect those at risk, that the competent authorities have been informed where required, and that the matter is properly investigated. Eurabelt may suspend support and the partnership while it does so, under the Partner Due Diligence and Sanctions Screening Policy (EBF-CSR-POL-07).
8Review
8.1This policy is owned by Compliance and reviewed at least once a year, and after any serious incident.
